  6. This file contains update information listed in chronological order
  7. for releases since version 1.0.  Read all information to become
  8. familiar with added features and enhancements.

  10. NOTE ON SUPPORT:

  12. Mustang Software is very serious about providing support to our registered
  13. users.  IF YOU ARE A REGISTERED USER you may take advantage of this 
  14. service.  As you know, we offer telephone support M-F, 9am - 4pm (PST) at
  15. our office in Bakersfield.  The number is 805/395-0223.

  17. We also run a BBS (WILDCAT! of course) 24 hours day/seven days a week.  We
  18. support 9600, 2400, 1200 & 300 bauds calls.  The phone number is 805/395-0650.

  20. Lastly, we are also providing support on GEnie (General Electric Information
  21. Services).  GEnie was choosen because of their BBS Round Table.  The Sysop's
  22. on GEnie are very well informed on just about every Bulletin Board product
  23. available, including WILDCAT!  GEnie is also very inexpensive.  At only $5.00
  24. an hour (1200 baud) it may be cheaper for some of you to call them, instead
  25. of us in California.  We try to check in atleast once a day to answer any
  26. questions which may have been posted.

  28. To get to the BBS Round Table, just type BBS at any prompt.  Then select
  29. Catagory # 5, Topic # 14 and you'll be in the WILDCAT! topic section.

  36. CHANGES & UPDATES

  38. Several enhancements have been made to the new Shareware version (1.03).  If you are
  39. upgrading from the Shareware version (1.0) you must follow the instructions
  40. listed at the end of this text file.

  42. The following additions, changes and omissions must be noted:

  45. Changes made since Shareware version 1.0 added to release 1.01:

  49. 1.   Fixed the bug involving the [N]ew files search.  The caller was not
  50.      allowed to enter any other date for the search. 
  51.  
  52. 2.   Fixed a nasty bug in the Sysop File Maintenance routines.  The bug is
  53.      reported as an array out of range, and pops up when the user doesn't
  54.      have any files in their database or they match/set on an area (Like
  55.      recent uploads) and move ALL the files out of that area.  
  56.  
  57. 3.   Fixed the [N]ext file bug in the Sysop (File Maintenance).

  59. 4.   Cleaned up some of the questionnaire output! 
  60.  
  61. 5.   Fixed spelling error in <HOME> help screen.

  63. 6.   Fixed a bug involving uploads protocol choice.

  65. 7.   Cleaned up some of our wording/terminology.

  67. 8.   Now when the Sysop drops to Dos, if a caller is online they are
  68.      notified.

  70. 9.   After a Drop to DOS, WILDCAT! returns to the sub-directory WILDCAT! was
  71.      started from, preventing directory errors. 
  72.  
  73. 10.  If a carbon copy is addressed to "Sysop" it now converts the CC to the
  74.      default first & last name of the actual SYSOP. 
  75.  
  76. 11.  Cleaned-up the [Y]our Settings and [U]ser (Sysop) Maintenance screens,
  77.      spaced things out a bit. 
  78.  
  79. 12.  If a message is in conference 'Y' (that is it has been deleted) then
  80.      the Kill prompt will NOT be displayed. 
  81.  
  82. 13.  WILDCAT! maintains the users TIME LEFT of a given day in their user
  83.      file.  If, when they call, we notice they have been on the system once
  84.      already that day we grab their TIME REMAINING from their user profile,
  85.      instead of looking up what their DTL is.  So, if you called in and had
  86.      60 minutes and there was an EVENT in 15 minutes, WILDCAT! would bump
  87.      their time down to 15, then when they logged off, save their Time
  88.      Remaining to 15 minus whatever time they used.  WILDCAT! didn't give
  89.      them their 45 minutes back, so if they called back later in the day,
  90.      they were short changed.  Well, this is all fixed now.  Why did I
  91.      explain all this you ask?  Well, I believe it is important to
  92.      understand how this works.  If you give a new user 20 minutes for their
  93.      first day, and you dump their access level in the same day, when they
  94.      call back, since it is the same day we don't check their DTL. They will
  95.      not see the EXTRA time until the next day.

  97. 14.  The QUESTIONNAIRE was not branching correctly on non-choice questions. 
  98.  
  99. 15.  Forwarding mail to the 'SYSOP' now converts 'SYSOP' to the defaults for
  100.      Sysop name in MAKEWILD. 
  101.  
  102. 16.  Added more DesQview support with the windows and direct screen writing.
  103.  
  104. 18.  Redesigned the Match/Set in the Sysop file area maintenance area. This
  105.      redesign helped improve the search speed by 50%.  We also now list all
  106.      the files alphabetically, when viewing files by area. 
  107.  
  108. 20.  Change the Press <C/R> to [ENTER] for consistency reasons.  Also, this
  109.      prompt is used mainly when the user is in novice mode only. 
  110.  
  111. 21.  Support for the USR HST (9600 Baud) modem is included! 
  112.  
  113. The program CONVERT.COM is included on your Support File Diskette.  It is an
  114. invaluable aid to creating File database information for both new SYSOPS as
  115. well as those who have run other BBS programs.  Be sure and read the
  116. documentation file, CONVERT.DOC for more information on conversion of DIR
  117. listings or other BBS file lists to WILDCAT! format.

  120. VERSION 1.02 
  121.  
  122. 1.  Fixed a bug in the Move file feature which created duplicate file
  123. indexes and didn't correctly maintain the file area information.  (Note: this
  124. bug was only in the first Commercial version 1.01)
  125.  
  126. VERSION 1.03 
  127.  
  128. 1.  Fixed a bug in the file listing area.  The listing would not include files
  129. that started with numbers.
  130.  
  131. 2.  Added the ability to lock the comm port at any rate and not change the
  132. rate when a call comes in.  Some modems like the USR HST will allow you to
  133. lock the comm port at 19.2k so WILDCAT! and the modem will communicate at
  134. 19.2K and the modem takes care of all the flow control to the remote
  135. terminal.  This increases throughput and makes the communication at 9600
  136. baud just fly!  Other 2400 baud modems (that support this type of locking)
  137. could be locked at 9600 to increase the throughput for 2400 baud calls.

  139. 3.  Fixed the [HOME] bug that was causing some problems on some systems.
  140.  
  141. 4.  Fixed a problem with moving files across drives.
  142.  
  143. 5.  Changed the way NEW files are displayed to the callers.  We no longer
  144. display NEW files by area, which helped speed up the listing considerably.
  145.  
  146. 6.  Turned off the inactivity timer when the sysop drops to DOS locally.
  147.  
  148. 7.  Fixed a bug involving the Check B_Day & Phone number options.  If you
  149. enter a zero in either one of these options, it would crash the system with
  150. a division by zero error.
  151.  
  152. 8.  Added a Memo Date field to the User file.  This will be handy for
  153. subscription boards.
  154.  
  155. 9.  Added two more imbedded control codes listing:
  156.       ^U^Q  The User's Memo Date
  157.       ^U^R  The User's Maximum number of DL permitted per day.

  159. 10.  Changed the printer error routine, so it should work with more printers.

  161. 11.  Fixed the ^B toggle to turn off the -- More -- prompt.

  163. 12.  Fixed a bug in the file maintenance.  Seems if you moved a bunch of
  164.      files, WILDCAT! would skip a few when getting the next file.

  166. 13.  Added the ability to not have the user's password displayed on the local
  167.      console when the user is signing on.  Refer the MAKEWILD, Security Info.

  169. 14.  Fixed a bug in the questionnaire, seemed if a user dropped carrier at
  170.      a multiple choice question the system would crash.

  172. 15.  added the ability to display color BULLETx files.

  176. UPDATE PROCEDURES FOR VERSION 1.0 TO VERSION 1.03
  177.  
  178. 1.  BACKUP all .DAT files and all .IDX files, CONFIGWC.BBS and 
  179.     MENUINFO.BBS!
  180.  
  181. 2.  Run CHANGEWC.COM to update your current CONFIGWC.BBS file to 
  182.     reflect the new configuration features.  You must be in your WILDCAT! 
  183.     main directory when CHANGEWC is run.  
  184.     
  185. 3.  Run MAKEWILD.COM (new version).  Make changes to reflect new options 
  186.     in Frame 3 starting at question 3.  You need not change your settings 
  187.     unless you are experiencing problems.  
  188.     
  189. 4.  Start WILDCAT! and IMMEDIATELY go to the [R]eports for Sysop Menu. 
  190.     Select option [I]ndex database Menu and re-index your Files database 
  191.     using selection 1.  This is necessary since additional index keys have 
  192.     been added which speed up searching during Match/Set.  FAILURE TO 
  193.     RE-INDEX MAY RESULT IN IRREVERSIBLE CONTAMINATION OF YOUR FILES DATABASE.
